#Familyhood is a community development strategy that defines schools as the center for development

#Familyhood is the vision that identifies schools in every community as the center for community development.
#Familyhood is driven by two main motto’s.
1) Friends of School motto: which states, “every school shall have a functioning SGA, PTA and Alumni. This collaboration is what we define as #Familyhood. 2) The Mo’ Better Food motto, which states, “every school shall have a garden, a farmers market and a grocery store.”

#Familyhood utilizes an inter-generational approach of increasing capacity at school sites by emphasizing three main organizations at school sites in collaboration. These three main organizations along with community partners are: Student Gov’t Association, Parent Teacher Association and Alumni. The “do now” strategy towards advancing a community towards #Familyhood is #1st Saturdays. 1st Saturdays represents the first Saturday of every month as the official monthly volunteer/recruitment day at school sites.

Every 1st Saturday, at the school garden, these three main organizations and community partners come together to hear updates of each organization while improving their school.
